Sharing knowledge and paving the way for the future of solar energy – Lightsource bp Q2 2024 event summary

Lightsource bp teams were on the road throughout Q2 2024, providing ample opportunities to share expertise, connect with local stakeholders and celebrate their achievements.

to happen agenda for Agrivoltaics World Conference

Lexie Hain speaks at the Agrivoltaics World ConferenceOur US team was in the spotlight at several key industry conferences in Q2, where eight subject matter experts presented on a wide range of topics, including DEIJ, community acceptance, policy, technical modeling, and weatherization. Agrivoltaics was also a major theme. One notable event was the Agrivoltaics World Conference in Denver, Colorado, where Lexie Hain, Director of Agrivoltaics and Land Management at Lightsource bp in the US, served on the conference’s scientific committee. Lexie, who is also a farmer and solar grower, chaired two panels during the three-day event, and also delivered a keynote address at the awards ceremony for the Agrivoltaics Student Design Competition, sponsored by Lightsource bp.

“Integrating solar energy into agriculture is not easy. It is a big challenge. Years of planning and coordination between agricultural entities and solar operators are needed to successfully exploit agrivoltaics,” Lexie emphasized to delegates at the conference.

Agrivoltaics Workshop organized in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy

In the field of agrivoltaics, Lightsource bp and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy hosted a technical workshop on the topic at the Lightsource bp center in Madrid. More than 30 members of the engineering and technical team gathered to share knowledge, explore new approaches, and discuss best practices for integrating agriculture with solar operations. The workshop aimed to increase understanding of diverse agricultural contexts and improve project outcomes for farmers while meeting the demand for sustainable energy.

Supporting the rural economy by sponsoring the Badminton Horse Trials

In the UK, Lightsource bp continued its sponsorship of the Badminton Horse Trials for the third year running, reinforcing its commitment to the rural economy. This prestigious equestrian event in South Gloucestershire, England, aligns with the company’s mission to develop solar projects that complement agricultural activities. By participating in such prestigious rural events, the company aims to strengthen stakeholder relationships and promote the integration of renewable energy into the agricultural environment. Lightsource bp is proud to demonstrate the value that renewable energy investment can have in rural communities. The sponsorship allows Lightsource bp to demonstrate how solar energy can benefit landowners and rural businesses, while also engaging with local communities.

Opening of a new Lightsource bp office in Poland

Lightsource bp has opened a new office in central Warsaw to support its growing team and expanding portfolio in Poland.

In the spring, the team moved into a new 3,000-square-foot office and was visited shortly afterwards by Nick Boyle and Kareen Boutonnat to celebrate the official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Over the last four years, since Lightsource bp started operating in Poland, our team has built a portfolio of solar projects with a total capacity of over 3.2 GW. We continue to develop our projects, our team is growing, which is why it is so important that we have our own office space in the center of Warsaw,” said Michał Głowacki, Head of Country, Lightsource bp Poland.
