Detroit Pistons Wanted to Acquire Golden State Warriors in Trade

The Golden State Warriors are expected to land one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters. According to AthleticsThe Detroit Pistons were in the running for Buddy Hield’s services.

In his goal of surrounding star Cade Cunningham with reliable shooters, Hield had a point.

Since entering the NBA as a first-round draft pick by the New Orleans Pelicans, Hield has shot 40 percent from three-point range for his career.

Although he began his career in New Orleans, Hield joined the Sacramento Kings via trade. After spending six seasons with the Kings, Hield was traded again to the Indiana Pacers.

Entering the 2023-2024 NBA season, Hield wanted a contract extension with Indiana. After not getting one, he was considered a trade candidate all year.

As the 2024 trade deadline approached, Hield became a top target for the Philadelphia 76ers. On deadline day, Hield was traded to the Sixers.

He finished the regular season with 32 appearances for the Sixers. Hield averaged 12 points while shooting 39 percent from three. In the playoffs, he played in four of Philly’s six first-round games against the New York Knicks.

By the end of the year, it was clear the Sixers could move on from Hield. When he entered free agency, Philly prioritized other prospects. Hield reportedly had offers from the Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers, but he liked the chance to compete with the Golden State Warriors. As a result, he is expected to come to Golden State via a sign-and-trade.
