The offer on social media was so tempting that they booked it without a second thought. However, on the day of booking, they were confused to find that no venue had been booked in their names, despite having paid the full amount up front.

This is just one example of scams operating on social media posing as wedding planners and e-commerce sites, warns the Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The agency warns consumers against fake accounts impersonating wedding planners and offering attractive packages on social media.

Scammers trick consumers into signing contracts and paying fees up front, and then disappear once they receive payment, leaving consumers without services and no way to recover their funds.

In addition, the management warns against accounts impersonating e-commerce websites.

Scammers trick customers into making purchases, receiving full payment, and then disappear without delivering the promised goods or services.

Often these fake accounts operate within closed businesses and prevent consumers from pursuing claims.

The Consumer Protection Directorate appeals to consumers to be vigilant and cautious when making purchases online, especially on social media platforms.

Consumers are advised to check the authenticity of accounts, avoid making advance payments and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Consumer Protection Directorate.
