Zomato acquires Polish company Gastronauci, fourth acquisition in 3 months

Bangalore: Indian restaurant search portal Zomato said Tuesday it has acquired Gastronauci, a Polish restaurant search service. This is Zomato’s fourth acquisition in three months.

With its latest acquisition, Zomato now has a presence in 16 countries and provides information for over 260,000 restaurants across these countries.

“We are excited to work on creating an integrated product that combines our technology with Gastronauci’s extensive reach in Poland,” said Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO of Zomato. The deal is expected to close in early November.

“Since 2007, we have had great success in building a strong and engaging user base for Gastronauci in Poland. This is an exciting new chapter for us and we look forward to working with Zomato and leveraging their technology and product expertise to deliver a new and improved experience for both consumers and merchants,” said Ola Lazar, Founder and CEO, Gastronauci.

For Zomato, expansion in Europe is one of the key focus areas, said Pramod Rao, Director, International Operations, Zomato. “We plan to expand across multiple geographies in the near future… We are delighted to have Gastronauci on board and look forward to further strengthening our presence in Central and Eastern Europe.”

Zomato has been aggressively expanding its global presence over the past two quarters. In August, it acquired Lunchtime.cz and Obedovat.sk, Czech and Slovak restaurant guides, respectively, for a combined $3.25 million.

Shortly before that, in July, Zomato acquired MenuMania, a restaurant discovery service in New Zealand. The three acquisitions in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland are strategic moves to establish Zomato’s presence in the restaurant discovery space in CEE.

Zomato has over 25 million monthly visitors worldwide. The site was founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah.
