Delegation of Chinese textile and clothing industry visits BEPZA

DHAKA, July 7, 2024 (BSS) – A 15-member high-level delegation from the Chinese textile and garment industry led by Huang Liansheng, President of China CTEXIC Corporation, visited the Bangladesh Executive Office for Export Processing Zones (BEPZA) in Dhaka today.

Welcoming the delegation, BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman apprised them about the establishment and functioning of EPZs in the country, a press release said.

He added that BEPZA started its operations 43 years ago and since then has been making a huge contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

The executive chairman said Bangladesh is on track to become a middle-income country by 2031 and a developed country by 2041. “Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the manufacturing sector is one of the major tools to achieve this vision,” he added.

“Our manufacturing sector is largely dominated by the ready-made garments sector due to the large number of cheap labour, but we encourage investments from various sectors such as electronics and electrical equipment, auto parts, IT products, machinery parts etc,” said the BEPZA executive chairman.

He also appealed to the Chinese delegation to invest in these diversified sectors, beyond clothing and textiles.

Huang Liansheng thanked BEPZA and expressed hope to strengthen cooperation with BEPZA and explore possible ways to increase investment in the textile and clothing industry.

BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Md. Ashraful Kabir said that BEPZA is a pioneer investment promotion agency in Bangladesh.

For 44 years, the Office has been facilitating the construction of EPZs for investors with professionalism, honesty and dedication.

He also urged investors to consider investing in EPZ and BEPZA EZ as their next investment destination.

Executive Director (Investment Promotion – Additional Responsibilities) Fazlul Haque Mazumder briefed the delegation on the general activities of BEPZA including operational procedures, facilities, incentives etc. through a PowerPoint presentation.
