Keyamo at LAAC seminar says recommendations from previous summit helped shape sector positively

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), will lead a team of eminent aviation industry professionals and the Director General in a forum to discuss ways for the aviation sector to emerge from its current challenges.

The Forum, the 28th annual conference of the League of Aviation and Air Correspondents (LAAC), will be held on Friday, July 26 at the Providence Hotel in Ikeja GRA.

In a statement confirming his participation, it was said that the LAAC conference, which is the leading platform for discussion in the Nigerian aviation sector, will enable the Minister to listen to stakeholders and seek input from them as part of his drive to restore the sector’s glory.

According to Keyamo, “Stakeholders remain a key part of my desire to reposition the aviation sector on its enviable path, where the industry can stand shoulder to shoulder with others on the global stage. I am aware that previous recommendations from the LAAC annual conference have helped to positively shape the course of the sector’s development.”

The Minister added that the conference theme, “Aviation Survival in the Face of Challenging Macroeconomic Conditions,” could not have come at a better time as the ministry is ready to ensure that all obstacles are removed to reposition the sector.

The event will be chaired by the CEO of CITA Group, Dr. Thomas Ogungbangbe, while the session will be moderated by the former Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Hamisu Yadudu.

The document revealed that the Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Umar Farouk will deliver the opening address while the panel session will feature the Director General of Civil Aviation, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Dr. Wale Babalakin, Chairman, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) as members.

The duo added that former Vice-Chancellor of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Captain Samuel Caulcrick and Second Vice-President of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), Dr. Alex Nwuba will be speaking.

The statement said other distinguished guests who attended the panel included the Chairman of the Airline Operators Association of Nigeria (AON) and Mr. Olaniyi Adigun, Chairman of the Association of Ground Handlers of Nigeria (AGHAN).

The theme of this year’s conference referred to the difficult economic situation in Nigeria which has exacerbated the already existing constraints on the growth and development of Nigerian aviation in the form of limited access to foreign exchange, currency depreciation, high fuel costs, maintenance costs, poor airport infrastructure, regulatory constraints, increasing demand for manpower, technological modernization, passenger comfort and other issues that require urgent attention from industry stakeholders, it added.
