$2.3 billion project faces budget overrun

The $2.3 billion EnergyConnect project, a key high-voltage line connecting renewable energy projects in South Australia to the national grid, has been hit by budget overruns, delays and missed payments.

Problems plaguing the core project have caused losses of €70 million ($113 million) to Spanish contractor Elecnor Group and have caused major delays to other projects key to Australia’s energy transition, including the $12 billion Snowy 2.0 project.
