Adelaide-based global architecture firm Woods Bagot has appointed Sarah Kay as chief executive officer, replacing Nik Karalis, who had held the role since 2015.

Kay’s career at Woods Bagot began 25 years ago and has spanned North America, Australia and the UK.

Most recently she was the studio director at Woods Bagot in Sydney and previously was the studio director in New York.

Woods Bagot said Kay had designed prestigious projects and integrated districts spanning commercial, transportation, residential and cultural sectors.

Woods Bagot was founded in Adelaide in 1869 and is responsible for local landmarks including Bonython Hall, the Barr Smith Library, the South Australian National War Memorial, the SAHMRI building and the redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre

Change of management at Carclew

Lisa Baker

Youth arts organisation Carclew has announced major changes to its leadership team, with Lisa Baker appointed Head of Programme, Robyn Jones becoming General Manager and Jude Henshall becoming Producer.

Carclew said Baker has two decades of experience in creative collaboration, community engagement and government-industry initiatives.

Baker serves on the board of Music Australia and has managed the Playford Northern Sounds System, a youth-focused creative industries precinct, for over a decade.

Carclew said Jones had extensive experience in the financial management and oversight of the South Australian film industry, having held key positions at the South Australian Film Corporation, the Adelaide Film Festival and Mercury Cinema’s Media Resource Centre.

Henshall is an award-winning actress, digital producer and entrepreneur whose work in leading theatre has earned her a Helpmann Award nomination and numerous Adelaide Critics Circle Awards.

She founded the all-female performing arts troupe “isthisyours?” and directed major events including the opening parade of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Carclew said Baker and Jones would form a new leadership team tasked with implementing a new strategic plan, while Henshall would “activate the house and work with the sector to strengthen and raise the profile of youth arts”.

Founded in 1971 and based in a historic mansion in North Adelaide, Carclew describes itself as the ‘home of youth art and creativity’.

William Buck expands Adelaide office

Accounting and advisory firm William Buck has announced the appointment of four new partners and two new directors in its Adelaide office, bringing the firm’s total number of partners in South Australia to 27.

Alice Psevdos, Danielle Jones, James Blackburn and Tricia Kleinig have been appointed partners, while Daniel Proctor and Henry Schofield are directors.

William Buck said the appointments “further strengthen the firm’s position in business advisory, wealth advisory, tax and retirement services.”

New CEO at Little Athletics

The South Australian Little Athletics Association has appointed Steven Baldas as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Little Athletics said Baldas has 25 years of experience in sports management in Australia and the United States.

He previously served as CEO of Tennis SA, COO of the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) and CEO of the Adelaide Strikers.

He has also served as an advisor to the South Australian Government on Recreation, Sport and Racing and was recently appointed Chairman of the Saint Ignatius College Foundation.

Little Athletics offers a modified sports program for children aged 3 to 17 at various skill levels.

Promotion in Black Sheep advertisement

Advertising firm Black Sheep Advertising has announced the promotion of Tom Ootes from client services director to managing director.

Black Sheep said: “With a deep understanding of client needs and driving marketing results, Tom’s eight years of agency experience and extensive experience in the wider industry prepared him for this role.”

Ootes has worked with clients including San Remo, OTR, Krispy Kreme, Peter Shearer, ECH, Meals on Wheels, TABOO Period Products, Qualia Wines, BAE Systems and Halls Soft Drinks, as well as a number of Federal and State Government clients including SAPOL, CFS, Lot Fourteen, Renewal SA and SA Health.

The appointment follows the recent additions of David Ormston and Michael Gagliardi as co-creative directors at Black Sheep.

Mellor Olsson Lawyers strengthens litigation team

Mellor Olsson Lawyers has announced the appointment of Nick Graham as partner and Alistair Flynn and Sianne Way as senior associates, in a move it says will “enhance the firm’s litigation capabilities in the construction sector”.

Mellor Olsson said Graham has extensive experience in corporate and commercial disputes, specialising in building and construction disputes and “brings a wealth of experience in managing complex disputes relating to both commercial and residential construction projects”.

The law firm said Flynn has practiced in national and local private firms, both in-house and in the public sector, and “capably represents both claimants and respondents in a broad spectrum of disputes and litigation matters, with a particular emphasis on construction and building disputes.”

Way has 12 years of experience in legal practice in South Australia and the UK, specialising in contractual disputes, insurance, insolvency and debt recovery.

Movements at Jacquillard Minns Chartered Accountants

Mark Lane

Jacquillard Minns Chartered Accountants has announced the promotion of Mark Lane and Bryn Coudraye to directors.

Lane, who began his accounting career at Grant Thornton in 2018, has been with Jacquillard Minns for more than three years.

Jacquillard Minns said Lane would bring “a high level of client care, a broad range of expertise and a proven track record of excellence” to her new role.

Coudraye has been an associate director at Jacquillard Minns for a year and a half, and previously worked at PwC.

Jacquillard Minns said she had significant experience in Australian Taxation Office matters and “brings a wealth of specialist knowledge from working extensively with corporate and private clients”.
