LTA Takes a Stand Against Non-Compliant Mobile Devices, Stomper Asks: “Why the Big PMD?”

A total of 30 offences committed by inept active mobility users were detected in Singapore over the past two weeks, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a social media post on July 3. The offences included using non-compliant personal mobility devices (PMDs) and electric assisted bicycles (PABs) and riding the devices on inappropriate roads. Enforcement officers conducted operations at various locations, such as Boon Lay, Central Boulevard, Marine Parade, Punggol, Tanjong Rhu and Yishun.

Sharing photos of a man using a mobility aid in Geylang, Stomper L he asked: “Why such a big PMD? Is it approved?”

Another Stomper shared a video of a woman in an electric wheelchair and said: “Woman travelling at high speed at Toa Payoh junction.”

The LTA said users of active mobility devices should comply with all requirements when using them. For PMDs, e-scooters and PABs, the maximum weight is 20kg and the maximum width is 70cm. For personal mobility aids (PMAs), such as mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs, the maximum speed is 10km/h. The LTA added that non-compliant devices will be immediately confiscated for safety reasons.
