Customers are ‘throwing away’ their Amazon Fire Sticks in favour of a rival £30 TV gadget

Streaming is now essentially the default way for millions of us to get our latest dose of top-quality (or low-quality) content, from new prestige TV shows to the latest movies. To access the best services, though, you may need a simple and affordable streaming device, since so many TVs have the software built in.

Roku has long offered some of the best streaming devices in the business, with options ranging from premium to super affordable. That last tag is perfect for the Roku Express, which is on sale on Amazon right now, with a deal that brings its price down to just £29.99 thanks to a 17% discount.

That means for under £30 you get a great little streaming device that has access to all the best apps and services, with a handy remote control and the ability to stream HD content straight to your chosen display. It also works with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. It also has a great reputation, receiving a four-star review from technology site Expert reviewsand sitting proudly on the label “Best Cheap Device of the Year” from the experienced team at Tom’s Hardware.

It’s not just the experts – customers have given it more than 17,500 reviews on Amazon and it has an average rating of 4.6 stars, which is really impressive for such a number. Some of these reviews are also really praiseworthy.

One person wrote: “I bought a Roku Express last week and I’m really happy with it. It’s designed for a slightly older TV (non-smart, 1080p) and we don’t really care about 4K, voice search, Alexa integration, or other features that come with most streaming devices. The Roku Express is a great solution for adding streaming functionality to an older TV, especially if you don’t want any of the other features.”

That’s a perfect summary, but others were more concise, like this user who said, “Easy to use, cheap, easy to set up. Nice remote. Nothing to dislike here…”

A third user wrote: “The device was simple and intuitive to set up. The remote control is compact and well-made. It’s easy to use and has good battery life. The user interface is attractive and intuitive to use. Setting up my favorite channels was a piece of cake. Highly recommended.”

There are people with critical comments, and some have issues with the remote. Another review mentioned: “I personally think the remote control could be cleaner and easier to use, but the instructions are nonexistent.”

Of course, you could also opt for a few other streaming devices, with the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite offering a similarly affordable option at £34.99 and with the bonus of an Alexa-enabled remote. Another option is Chromecast with Google TVThe HD version costs £34.99, making using Chromecast a piece of cake if you like to cast content from other devices.

None of them are as cheap as Roku Expressmaking it a pretty great option for HD streaming if you’re looking for a simple device. This deal also won’t last forever, so don’t wait if you’re potentially interested!
