Nusantara construction to be suspended for Independence Day – Regulations

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced that construction work in Nusantara, Indonesia’s new capital in East Kalimantan, will be temporarily suspended in the run-up to Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17.

Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, head of the ministerial task force for infrastructure construction in Nusantara, said no activities, including construction, would be undertaken in the week before the Independence Day celebrations.

However, despite the week-long suspension, construction workers will not be sent home and the housing ministry will assign them other tasks, including certification training.

In addition, administrative staff and other office workers will continue to work as usual to ensure smooth continuation of work after the ceremony.

“Some will stay there and we will use them. For those who work indoors, like in offices, that’s fine. For those who have to be outside, we will organize separate activities, like sports or certification training, to keep them busy. It’s just for a few days,” Danis said.
