Ethiopian diasporas praise government’s policy of involving diaspora in national agenda – ENA English

Addis Ababa, 7 July 2024 (ENA) Diaspora members have appreciated the Ethiopian government’s policy of engaging the diaspora in all the country’s affairs.

Members of the Ethiopian diaspora, who recently arrived in Ethiopia to participate in the 26th International Harar Day, told ENA that the policy encourages them to participate in all kinds of national affairs.

Diaspora representatives from Europe, Australia, the US, Canada and several Asian countries planted tree seedlings in Harar today as part of this year’s Green Heritage Campaign.

The occasion also saw praise for the Green National Heritage Campaign initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, highlighting its importance for the overall development of the country.

Abubeker Ali and Bekri Ahmed, from Germany and Canada respectively, expressed their joy at having the opportunity to be part of this innovative venture and leave behind a legacy that is crucial for a better future for the country.

For Abdulhakim Ramadan, originally from Minnesota in the US, the green heritage initiative is crucial to the country’s survival as it is a key tool in mitigating the effects of climate change.

He further stressed the need for close cooperation of all Ethiopians to achieve the goals of the initiative.

Diaspora members are encouraged to actively participate in investments, volunteer activities and other important issues of their country, as they have a strong interest in the government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for their greater involvement.

The involvement of the Ethiopian community and the diaspora of Ethiopian origin worldwide in their country’s multi-faceted development projects has increased after the reform. For example, the diaspora has contributed more than 3.5 billion Birr in the last six years to support various development projects in the form of cash and in kind, we learned.
