Mahama unveils his Black Experiences policy for the creative sector

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Standard Bearer Jan Dramas Mahama has unveiled ambitious plans that have the potential to revitalise Ghana’s creative industry.

Mr. Mahama exposed “This Black Experience,” AND exhaustive set With rules intended improve this tourism AND creative art sector Dduring an interaction with the media on Sunday, July 7.

The former president expressed optimism about the policy and stressed how much it would contribute to improving the situation in the sector.

“I have good news for the creative industry. Our overarching policy for the industry will be the Black Experience. It will be aimed at strengthening the tourism and creative arts sectors,” he said.

The Black Experience Initiative will include:

  1. Pan-African Month: A month dedicated to celebrating Africa’s rich cultural heritage, strengthening unity and cooperation among African nations.
  2. Ghana Film Festival and Awards Month: An event aimed at showcasing and celebrating the achievements of Ghanaian filmmakers and the broader film industry.
  3. Ghana Heritage and History Month: A period of reflection and celebration of Ghana’s rich past and cultural heritage.
  4. Fashion and Food Month: An initiative aimed at highlighting and promoting Ghanaian fashion and cuisine, showcasing the country’s creative talents.
  5. Diaspora Month: It is time to appreciate and engage the Ghanaian diaspora, encouraging them to participate in the country’s development and cultural exchange.

Mahama pledged to revitalise each regional National Cultural Centre and make them easily accessible hubs for the creative sector.

He further emphasised the need to support veteran artists who have contributed to the industry.

“Our commitment is to create a dynamic, inclusive and sustainable creative industry that respects our heritage and promotes our cultural narrative internationally,” concluded Mr Mahama.
