The government will impose taxes on 14 sectors that were not previously taxed

Sri Lankan Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said the government intends to collect taxes from 14 previously untaxed sectors that have so far been left out and ensure they comply with tax laws.

Speaking to reporters in Kegalle, he said further investigation had been launched into the matter.

The Minister of State stated that no one had been given the opportunity to avoid paying taxes and that never before had such close attention been paid to paying taxes.

The state minister added that last year, 14 sectors were identified as having to register to pay taxes, including large tutoring schools, private schools, private medical services, engineering services and surveying services.

“The Revenue Authority is conducting investigations into the income of all entities registered in these fourteen sectors,” Siyambalapitiya said.
