Mendix 10.12 update introduces AI tools and improved security

Mendix has announced the release of Mendix 10.12, a significant update to its low-code platform. It introduces a variety of new features focused on AI-assisted development, an improved developer experience, and improved governance and security. The update aims to strengthen organizations’ ability to innovate rapidly while maintaining solid control over their application development processes.

A notable event is the introduction of Maia, an AI-powered coding assistant, in Mendix 10.12. The tool aims to provide Mendix developers with guidance, assistance, and generation capabilities.

Hans de Visser, Chief Product Officer at Mendix, said: “These updates underscore the need to improve developer productivity and accelerate projects in an increasingly competitive marketplace driven by automation and AI. This release not only increases developer productivity, but also supports extensive global reach and compliance, ensuring that developers and business technologists can build engaging, intelligent, and innovative applications with speed and ease.”

“Without any compromise on control and governance, Mendix’s powerful, enterprise-grade low-code platform democratizes access to enhanced AI capabilities and makes business-critical software development easier and faster.”

New features include an updated Conversational UI that provides reusable components for easily deploying AI chatbots in Mendix applications. This includes compatibility with Amazon Bedrock and OpenAI connectors, allowing developers to quickly create informative and original content. Additionally, the platform now includes Retrieval Augmented Generation, which allows customers to generate AI-powered content based on their data. It also introduced an AI Bot Starter app to help organizations quickly launch their own private chatbot and virtual assistant solutions.

Mendix 10.12 promises significant improvements to developer productivity with updates like the integration of Mendix Chat with Maia. This offers immediate, detailed answers to user questions based on several sources, including documentation and learning paths. There are also updates to the Workflow Recommender, Logic Recommender, and Best Practices Recommender in Maia, which are aimed at providing developers with real-time assistance.

The new release provides improved management and security for low-code applications, with features such as advanced audit trails, portfolio management, market curation, and improved security management tools. These updates enable centralized control, aimed at ensuring quality and compliance without compromising innovation.

Aristteles Terceiro Neto, Industrial Transformation Manager at Vivix, endorsed the improvements: “As a manufacturer, we must constantly push the boundaries of our technology platforms to achieve maximum productivity and customer satisfaction. We rely on Mendix to create these efficiencies throughout the software lifecycle and in our core business processes, and we are already unlocking greater value with generative AI-enhanced applications.”

Neto highlighted the company’s success with a specific tool: “In one case, our Virtual Engineer chatbot powered by Mendix and Amazon Bedrock is helping us achieve 80% faster resolution of customer complaints. These early results are exciting, and it’s great to see Mendix’s AI roadmap evolving to act as a key enabler in our Industry 4.0 strategy.”

Mendix 10.12 is a step forward in integrating AI capabilities into low-code development. It aims to improve both the user experience and application security controls. The inclusion of advanced AI tools and improved developer support aims to provide a versatile and secure platform for rapid innovation.
