First power from North Sea Moray West wind farm

Ocean Winds has generated electricity from the first sets of wind turbines at the Moray West offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth in eastern Scotland.

The energy produced is exported to the National Electricity Transmission System (NETS). During development, construction vessels operated from the ports of Invergordon and Nigg in the Cromarty Firth, while crew transfer vessels operated from the port of Buckie in Moray.

With all foundations, offshore substations and cables now in place, the remaining turbine components are now being pre-assembled at Nigg ahead of offshore installation.

At the onshore substation, construction work on the second circuit is nearing completion, following the commissioning of the first. Export cables have been laid and buried in the cable corridor, completing the electrical connection between the wind turbines and NETS at Blackhillock Substation.

The 882 MW wind farm, which is nearing completion, should be fully operational in 2025.
