Myanmar and Thailand cooperate on energy projects to strengthen regional energy infrastructure

An important signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) marking cooperation between the energy sectors of Myanmar and Thailand was held at the Inya Lake Hotel in Yangon.

The cooperation agreement was signed between Myanmar-based CAG Engineering Co Ltd, an independent power producer (IPP) under the CAG Group of Companies, and several technical expert companies in the Thai energy sector, including PEA Encom Co Ltd, I Power Co Ltd, R & J Co Ltd, Mega Prime Group and Z Carbon.

The purpose of this agreement is to explore and develop a range of renewable and traditional energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro and natural gas. In addition, a preliminary memorandum of understanding has been established for potential cooperation in the generation of geothermal energy in the future. This comprehensive agreement marks a significant step towards ensuring a more secure and diversified energy future for both countries.

CAG Engineering Co Ltd is at the forefront of solar energy development in Myanmar, with five solar power projects with a combined capacity of 210 megawatts. The first 90 MW project has already been successfully implemented in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. Future projects are planned in Ayeyawady, Mandalay and Magway regions and southern Shan State.
