Amazon Unveils Echo Spot Alarm Clock for $79

Amazon has introduced the Echo Spot alarm clock, which features better sound and image quality than the original introduced in 2017, but does not have a built-in camera.

Like its predecessor, the Echo Spot is part of the tech giant’s growing family of Alexa devices.

Amazon pulled the device from sale in 2019, in part because customers felt uncomfortable with the camera in their bedroom.

The company noted that the new Echo Spot “does not support features that require an integrated camera, such as video calling or video streaming from connected smart home cameras or doorbells.”

Voice calls between other Alexa devices are supported.

While the original Echo Spot was priced at $130, the latest version costs $79. Amazon Prime customers can get it for $49 through Prime Day, which takes place on July 16 and 17.

On the 2.83-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, users can check the time, weather and song titles.

The device is equipped with a microphone mute button, physical volume buttons, and hands-free control via Alexa commands.

Dual-band Wi-Fi is 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatible on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh and shared networking via Amazon Sidewalk are also available.

Customers can use Alexa to set alarms on Echo Spot or establish routines for lighting and heating.
