E-commerce and other digital businesses not headquartered in Vietnam paid VND4.04 trillion ($158.9 million) in online taxes in 2024, up 18.5% from a year earlier.

The number of foreign service providers who have registered to pay taxes via the electronic portal has increased by 26 people since the end of 2023, to 102 in June, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

These include Google, Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Netflix and Apple.

So far, 383 international and domestic e-commerce platforms have been registered on the electronic portal, which is 22 more than at the end of 2023.

E-commerce activities are divided into eight groups: e-commerce platforms, online trading sites or apps, social media platforms, transportation and delivery platforms, digital agency platforms, subscription services, advertising services, and app store platforms.

According to the General Department of Taxation, tax payments from e-commerce activities amounted to VND97 trillion last year, an increase of 14% compared to 2022.
