Apple releases iOS 18 beta 3: here’s what’s new

Apple has released iOS 18 beta 3 for developers, bringing significant changes to Home screen customization, various design and interface tweaks, and more. Here’s a full rundown of everything new in iOS 18 beta 3.

iOS 18 is currently available to developer beta testers, with a public beta expected in July and a general release scheduled for September. It’s important to note that in the early stages of a beta, changes and improvements can be unpredictable. This means that something functional in iOS 18 beta 2 may be broken in iOS 18 beta 3. As always, proceed with caution.

iOS 18 Beta 3: New Features and Changes

1. Home screen dark mode icons

iOS 18 beta 3 introduced a feature that automatically converts app icons on the Home screen to dark mode using machine learning-based image splitting technology.

2. Dynamic wallpaper

The default wallpaper in iOS 18 beta 3 now includes a new “dynamic” color change option. Enabling this setting will change the wallpaper color at different times of the day.

3. Flashlight UI Update

The flashlight UI for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users has been refined in Dynamic Island in iOS 18 beta 3.

4. Photos app improvements

The “Select” button is now always visible in the Photos app, so you don’t have to swipe up to get to the photo grid.

The pinch-to-zoom gesture in the Photos app and Photos browser has been restored and works just like it did in iOS 17 and earlier.

5. RCS Message Details

The “RCS Messaging” option in the Settings app now offers more detailed information about the feature. You can find it in Settings > Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging.

6. Emoji Keyboard Improvements

The emoji keyboard has been updated to display larger icons that are easier to see and touch. You can also access stickers and emojis below the keyboard.

7. Focus Mode in News

In Focus Mode, the Messages app no ​​longer displays the contact name for muted notifications, instead only displaying “Messages.”

8. Apple Maps Dark Mode Icon
