Apple introduced AI-powered features, collectively called Apple Intelligence, at its annual developer event (WWDC) in June. The first wave of these features is expected to debut later this year on iPhones, Macs, and iPads alongside next-generation platform updates. Apple Intelligence is expected to expand to more ecosystem devices later this year, including the HomePod. However, Bloomberg reported that instead of a HomePod, Apple could launch its first Apple Intelligence-enabled home device in the form of a tabletop robot.

The robot is expected to be powered by Siri from Apple Intelligence, which was unveiled at WWDC. It seems that the improvements to Siri have paved the way for ideas for tabletop robots. The tabletop robot will reportedly feature an iPad-like display and will move around and mimic the user’s head movements, such as nodding. It is also expected to have the ability to precisely lock onto a single person in a crowd during a video call. The tabletop robot will likely support voice control, and the device will be powered by an improved version of Siri.

Previous Bloomberg reports have outlined Apple’s robotics projects and included details about a tabletop robot, suggesting that Apple has already started working on it. Previous Bloomberg reports have also indicated that Apple is primarily focused on bringing the latest AI features to iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, but it also wants to start a new phase of its AI hardware cloud approach for its upcoming hardware products. As a result, Apple could launch new hardware in categories like robotics, augmented reality (AR) glasses, smart AirPods, and more.

Apple has reportedly already discussed humanoid robots with advanced AI engines internally. The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset reportedly already uses AI, and Apple could use the technology in AI-powered hardware like AR glasses and AirPods.
