Spain sets rules to install floating solar plants

MADRID (Reuters) – The Spanish government has approved a decree setting out rules for installing floating photovoltaic plants on state-owned reservoirs, Energy Minister Teresa Ribera told reporters on Tuesday.

Renewable energy is breaking records in the country, generating almost 60% of its electricity in the first half of the year.

The rules come in response to a growing interest from developers to install floating solar systems, Ribera said.

Under the framework, plants will be able to cover up to 15% of a suitable water surface, with concessions running to up to 25 years, she said.
