‘I don’t trust Amazon’ say horrified customers as beloved gadget comes back from the dead – but fans say ‘I’ve already ordered it’

AMAZON has announced the return of a beloved smart device, leaving many fans stunned.

The retail giant teased the Echo Spot 2024 in a promotional video earlier this week. The alarm clock displays the time, weather, and song names by your bed.

The app is also integrated with Amazon Alexa, so you can control music and get information using the company’s voice assistant.

The original model hit the market in 2017, but production ended two years later.

The updated Echo Spot is almost identical to the old model, except for the front panel, which is split between the screen and speaker.

Potential buyers flocked to Reddit, where one question outshone the rest: “Will there be ads?”

Several users said the reason they got rid of their Echo devices was the endless stream of ads.

“For me, the most important question will be: ‘are ads being displayed at all?’ and by ‘ads’ I mean very broadly, meaning any content that I did not request to be displayed,” wrote one Reddit user.

“As we all know, Echo Shows will show ads for a variety of things and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to completely disable this behavior.”

Another user said the retailer had “made it clear” its willingness to “run ads on any device with a screen.”

“While ads can be turned off, hidden, unchecked or whatever you want to call it, I shouldn’t have to do that, Amazon “He can turn them back on at any time, and often does,” the user wrote.

“That is why I refuse any Amazon devices with screens.”

Yet another user accused the company of “making all Echo devices full of bugs” to encourage customers to purchase a new device.

“It will not work, Amazon“- said the Internet user.

“That just tells me your products don’t work and that I shouldn’t have them in my home.”

However, several loyal fans revealed that they purchased the device just hours after its launch. Amazon side.

“I ordered a next day delivery,” one Reddit user wrote, promising to replace “two to four Echo Show 5 devices” with the product.

However, this promise was made on two conditions.

“The big question for me is will it have ads in the US and will it be able to maintain screen time without randomly switching to another screen?” the user wrote.

The launch of the new Echo Spot coincided with Prime Day, the annual sale event for Prime members during which you can grab big price cuts on many products, including electronics.

It is currently on sale for £49.99 in the UK and $44.99 in the US – a reduction of around 40% on the list price.
