Bulls are already cutting the last trade acquisitions

The Chicago Bulls are in the midst of a busy offseason as they have restructured their roster by parting ways with Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, and Andre Drummond. This was a long-awaited decision by management as the Bulls could have easily received a lot more in return for these players if they had been traded last season before the trade deadline. Unfortunately, it is still good to see the organization finally come to its senses and decide to start rebuilding.

It doesn’t look like the trades will stop anytime soon. After the Bulls signed and traded DeRozan to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team deal, they received Chris Duarte and RaiQuan Gray in return. According to KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the team just waived Gray.

Gray was selected in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft and spent the first three seasons of his career with the Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs, appearing in a total of four games. The former Florida State standout was unable to make it in the NBA and will now become an unrestricted free agent, hoping for a two-way contract.

This move officially makes it clear that all the Bulls got in exchange for DeRozan was Duarte. It’s a disastrous move by management, especially considering Sacramento also gave up Harrison Barnes and a 2031 first-round pick to sign DeRozan. Chicago could have gotten those assets if it had the budget space, but it already squandered it by extending Patrick Williams and signing Jalen Smith.

So far this offseason, the Bulls front office has managed to trade Caruso, Drummond, and DeRozan for Josh Giddey, Chris Duarte, and two second-round picks. It’s not exactly the haul Bulls fans were hoping for.
