Government urged to support policies to boost e-learning initiatives


The High Commissioner of India in Ghana Shri Manish Gupta urges government to support policies aimed at improving e-learning initiatives in Ghana.

He argues that supporting the necessary resources will lead to the economic transformation of the country.

“The necessary infrastructure, financing and regulations must be provided,” he said.

He spoke virtually during E-Learning Week 2024 organized by KNUST E-Learning Centre in Kumasi.

The main theme of the programme is “Supporting Excellence in e-Learning Across Disciplines: Progress, Challenges and Perspectives”.

The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Shlomit Sufa, expressed optimism and hope that the two countries will be able to establish cooperation that will contribute to the development of the e-learning market in Ghana.

“I believe that through this collaboration we will find solutions to some of the e-learning challenges in e-learning in Ghana. By combining our strengths and learning from each other.

“As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of education, our partnerships continue to grow and adapt. Integrating Israeli e-learning technologies with those of Ghana represents a shared vision to equip the next generation with the tools and knowledge they will need to succeed in a rapidly changing world of socio-economic development,” she said.

She called for the development of the capacity of teachers to enable them to deliver online learning in Ghana.

“Teachers play a key role in the success of online learning initiatives. In France, continuing education is offered to teachers to help them integrate digital technology into their teaching methods,” she said.

During the conference, workshops will be held for selected high school students on the Tek Smartest Quiz competition organized by SRC for students,

There will also be a talk by Ghanaian vlogger Kwadwo Sheldon on the topic of “Mastering Online Brand Building.”

Teaching assistants and postgraduate students will also have the opportunity to meet with a delegation from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) to discuss the myriad opportunities ACU offers to students and service providers, enabling them to maximise their potential and make a meaningful contribution to the global academic community and beyond.

The week will culminate in the International E-learning Conference 2024.

“It is a time to explore new ideas, as we should. It is also a time to share best practices, as the conference will bring together people from all walks of life, and it is also a time to imagine digital learning worldwide,” said Prof. Eric Appau Asante, Director of KNUST E-learning Centre.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, emphasised the university’s commitment to making digital competences the foundation of its activities.

“As a university, we remain engaged and international, leaving no student or staff member behind,” she said.
