Samsung increases use of renewable energy at Vietnam facilities

Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday its plants in Vietnam will step up environmentally friendly efforts by directly purchasing renewable energy under Vietnam’s new DPPA system.

The Vietnamese government on Wednesday issued a decree allowing companies to directly purchase renewable energy from private power producers through a direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) system.

The DPPA system allows companies to contract for a specified amount of renewable energy directly with private power producers, state-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

With the implementation of the DPPA, Samsung Electronics plants in Vietnam will be able to purchase renewable energy from private power producers, strengthening the institutional foundation for securing access to renewable energy.

Samsung Electronics is working with various stakeholders, including the Vietnamese government and civil society organizations, to implement the DPPA to enable environmentally friendly operations.
