Update on Senior Management Appointments

Dear colleagues and students

The University of Cape Town (UCT) has a number of vacancies for senior management positions, and the recruitment processes are at various stages of progress. I am writing to provide an update on these processes.

Chief executive officer

The recruitment process has not yet begun. The incumbent, Mr. Mughtar Parker, has been appointed to serve in the position from August 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. The Board approved an extension until December 31, 2024, or until a substantive appointment is made, whichever comes first.

Deputy Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation

The composition of the selection committee and the job description were approved by the Council on 22 June 2024. This position will be announced in due course. Professor Jeff Murugan has served in this position.

Deputy Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning

The process is currently at the pre-screening stage and interviews will be held shortly. Following DVC, Emer Prof Linda Ronnie has been initially appointed to the position from 17 July 2023 to 16 April 2024. The appointment has been extended to 31 December 2024 or until a substantive appointment is made.

Executive Director: Communications and Marketing

The recommendation of the selection committee was presented to the Council and approved at its meeting held on 22 June 2024. The official announcement will be published separately.

Executive Director: Human Resources

This position has been re-advertised and applications closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The candidate selection process will then begin.


This position has also been re-advertised. Applications have now closed and a pre-selection process is to take place.

We are still working to complete the recruitment processes as quickly as possible.
