Stock Market Sectors: Stock Market Update: Energy Stocks Down, Sensex Down

NEW DELHI: Power stocks ended lower on Wednesday with top gainers being GE Power India Ltd. (up 11.27%), NLC India Ltd. (up 4.99%), Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (up 3.22%), Energy Development Company Ltd. (up 3.17%), NHPC Ltd. (up 2.62%), CESC Ltd. (up 2.27%), India Power Corporation Ltd. (up 1.93%), Torrent Power Ltd. (up 1.76%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (up 1.44%) and NTPC Ltd. (up 1.16%).

Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (down 4.69%), Orient Green Power Company Ltd. (down 3.73%), KEC International Ltd. (down 3.73%), Jyoti Structures Ltd. (down 2.97%), Transformers & Rectifiers(India) Ltd. (down 2.87%), Indo Tech Transformers Ltd. (down 2.40%), RattanIndia Power Ltd. (down 2.11%), Inox Wind Energy Ltd. (down 2.02%), Voltamp Transformers Ltd. (down 1.97%) and Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd. (down 1.94%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended the day down 108.75 points at 24,324.45, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 426.87 points at 79,924.77.

Asian Paints Ltd. (up 3.15%), SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd. (up 2.24%), Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (up 1.87%), Britannia Industries Ltd. (up 1.53%), Grasim Industries Ltd. (up 1.47%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. (up 1.46%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (up 1.44%), NTPC Ltd. (up 1.16%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. (up 0.88%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (up 0.83%) were among the top gainers on the Nifty.

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (down 6.62%), Tata Steel Ltd. (down 2.23%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (down 1.94%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (down 1.92%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (down 1.44%), State Bank of India (down 1.43%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (down 1.39%), Shriram Finance Ltd. (down 1.08%), JSW Steel Ltd. (down 1.06%) and Wipro Ltd. (down 1.01%) ended in the red.
