Generation Alpha is fascinated by e-commerce

A new study by Florida-based HostingAdvice found that 70.4% of Gen Alpha kids ask their parents to buy items they see on social media every week.

The report is based on a survey of 500 parents of children aged 7 to 14 who have noticed a growing appetite for online shopping among their children. According to HostingAdvice, 90% of parents surveyed said their children ask for things at least once a month – and 28% said it had become a daily occurrence.

Breaking down these questions by product category, video games are the number one most desired item at 76%. And with console video games costing an average of $69.99 per title, it’s no wonder 65% of parents said they’re spending more money on their kids these days. Another 27% of parents expect to spend between 20% and 50% more this year, with just 7% planning to spend less.

Clothing (44%), makeup and cosmetics (33%), and luxury items (27%) also topped kids’ wish lists, no doubt thanks to inspiration from their favorite TikTok and YouTube influencers. Almost 50% of parents receive these types of requests from their daughters, but interestingly, 17% said their sons expressed interest as well.
