Google recently announced a new initiative that aims to simplify moving data from Google Photos to iCloud Photos.

According to Gadget360This step is part of a collaboration with Apple to increase data portability.

The new tool, part of Google’s Takeout initiative to migrate data, will allow users to move media to iCloud Photos without having to delete it from the Google library or download the data.

Google Takeout now supports seamless uploads to iCloud Photos. This feature will roll out to users next week.

The tool uses open-source technology from the Data Transfer Project (DTP). Users can select iCloud Photos as a Google Takeout destination, choose the data to transfer, and set media visibility permissions.

The transferred photos and videos will appear in a new “Import from Google” album in the Photos app.

If some media is missing, it will be available in a folder of the same name in Drive.

The tool supports JPEG, HEIC, and PNG images, and MP4 and MOV videos. Moving photos, live photos, and memories are not transferable.

Once the transfer is complete, users will receive a confirmation email.

If you turn off iCloud Photos during the process, only the uploaded media will be visible on your Apple device.
