Maryland plans to open 23 new electric vehicle charging stations by fall 2025.

The Maryland Department of Transportation plans to install electric vehicle charging stations at 23 new locations on state highways by fall 2025. The stations, totaling 130 outlets, will include DC fast chargers strategically placed at gas stations, convenience stores and shopping centers near major highways. The initiative, part of Maryland’s broader effort to expand electric vehicle infrastructure, is intended to support the state’s climate goals and accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles on the road. NCPC Unveils Concept Design That Will Add 20 Acres to National Mall

The National Capital Planning Commission has unveiled a concept development that includes a 20-acre expansion of the National Mall to enhance the connection to the waterfront in Foggy Bottom. The plan calls for construction over the Potomac River Freeway to create new open spaces while maintaining current traffic patterns. Vienna City Council gives green light to new sidewalk projects

The Vienna City Council has approved several sidewalk projects totaling more than $1.1 million, funded by the Maud Ferris Robinson Charitable Trust. Contracts have been awarded for sidewalks on Lullaby Lane, Harmony Drive, Johnson Street, St. Andrews Drive, St. Bernard Drive, Courthouse Road and Pleasant Street. The projects are designed to improve walkability and are consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan, which calls for sidewalks on at least one side of every street. Governor Moore proposes $148.6 million budget cut to prioritize health care and child care funding

Gov. Wes Moore has proposed cutting $148.6 million from the state budget to redirect resources to Medicaid and child welfare services. The cuts, intended to address fiscal concerns and maintain key programs, are pending approval by the Board of Public Works. Programs that could be targeted for cuts include public defenders, local health departments, urban forestry and drone safety improvements at the Port of Baltimore. (This article may require payment.) Airlines compete for new long-haul slots at national airport

Eight airlines have applied for five new long-haul slots at National Airport, an expansion that elected leaders in the Washington region have vehemently opposed over safety concerns. The U.S. Department of Transportation will assign one flight to a smaller carrier and four to larger airlines. The proposed destinations are San Diego, San Francisco and San Juan.
