The duo is aiming for the North Sea, where a floating energy hub will be built

SBM Offshore and Ocean-Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the construction of a floating CO2-based power generation centre₂ capture and storage.

The partners intend to assess the technical feasibility and commercial readiness of applications on the continental shelves of Norway and the UK.

The investment will use Ocean-Power’s patented Blue Power Hub concept, which involves generating electricity at sea using gas turbines combined with carbon capture and storage to reduce CO2 emissions.₂ emissions.

According to SBM Offshore, the hub could transmit power to offshore infrastructure via submarine cables, causing minimal impact to the national grid, while balancing wind farm capacity in a bi-directional transmission structure.
