The duo is aiming for the North Sea, where a floating energy hub will be built

SBM Offshore and Ocean-Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the construction of a floating CO2-based power generation centre2 capture and storage.

The partners intend to assess the technical feasibility and commercial readiness of applications on the continental shelves of Norway and the UK.

The investment will use Ocean-Power’s patented Blue Power Hub concept, which involves generating electricity at sea using gas turbines combined with carbon capture and storage to reduce CO2 emissions.2 emissions.

According to SBM Offshore, the hub could transmit power to offshore infrastructure via submarine cables, causing minimal impact to the national grid, while balancing wind farm capacity in a bi-directional transmission structure.
