Nala Renewables takes over photovoltaic project in Romania

Nala Renewables has entered into an agreement to acquire a 61 MWp (megawatts peak) photovoltaic (PV) project in western Romania from renewable energy group Monsson.

Construction of the solar project will begin in the third quarter of this year, and connection to the Romanian power grid is planned for 2025.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sebastian Enache, Director of Mergers & Acquisitions at Monsson, stated: “We are pleased to partner with Nala Renewables on this project and support their operations in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region.

“Monsson is committed to its role in ensuring a just transition towards clean energy and a stable energy system. All our projects have large battery storage systems considered in their design, as our vision is that renewable energy can also be supplied as baseload.”

The solar plant will play a key role in achieving Nala’s sustainable development commitments set by the UN.

It will produce 80,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy per year, equivalent to the energy consumption of 13,000 households.

The plant will offset 39,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year, contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change.

The solar project also offers the opportunity to increase power by potentially adding a battery energy storage system (BESS).

Nala Renewables plans to integrate this system into the project to increase its efficiency and reliability.

The long-term electricity supply agreement for the project guarantees security of revenue for at least twelve years from the date of launch.

Nala Renewables Director Will Herlinger said: “We are delighted to have completed our first acquisition with Monsson, which has significant experience in developing and operating renewable energy projects in Romania.

“It is an attractive country to develop, acquire, build and operate renewable projects, partly due to a supportive regulatory environment driven by ambitious renewable energy targets. We expect to remain active in the CEE region in the coming years.”
