Kalamazoo Public Schools releases finalists for open board seat | WKZO | All About Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools has announced the names of three finalists whose board will interview today for open board positions.

Bobby Boyd, Juanita Yvonne Payton and Alicia Swift were selected from nine candidates who applied.

Board member Jermaine Jackson resigned on June 13, and whoever is selected will serve until the end of his term in December.

Interviews are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., and the board is expected to select a candidate to fill the vacant position after the interviews conclude this evening.

Boyd is active in the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, the Metropolitan Kalamazoo NAACP and Southwest Michigan First.

Payton is a former elementary teacher, principal and assistant superintendent for Kalamazoo Public Schools. She is involved in several community organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Kalamazoo Links, Family Health Center and Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.

Swift works for the State of Michigan and has a background in public health. She has served in leadership roles at the Northside Association for Community Development, Rootead Enrichment Center, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
