China’s OPPO on July 12 unveiled its first wave of mobile AI features with the launch of the Reno 12 series. The series includes the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro, both of which are equipped with AI-powered tools for multimedia editing, text generation, and summarization functions. These gen-AI features come from both OPPO and Google. Here are the details:

OPPO Reno 12 Series: Availability and Introductory Offers

Both the smartphones are now available for pre-order in India. The OPPO Reno 12 Pro smartphone will be available for pre-order starting July 18, while the standard Reno 12 smartphone will be available from July 25 via the OPPO online store, e-commerce platform Flipkart, and select retail outlets.

As for the introductory offers, customers can avail cashback of up to Rs 4,000 on select bank cards, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, One Card and Kotak Bank. There is also the option of a no-cost monthly installment plan (EMI) for up to nine months.

Additionally, customers who order smartphones in advance will receive a six-month one-time screen replacement service.

OPPO Reno 12 Series: AI-powered features

The Oppo Reno 12 series smartphones come with AI-powered media editing tools like AI Best Face, AI Eraser 2.0, and more. The AI ​​Best Face feature recognizes human faces, facial expressions, and enhances images by opening the subject’s closed eyes. For AI Eraser, Oppo said the feature offers up to 98 percent image recognition accuracy, allowing users to remove distracting elements from photos. The smartphone also comes with the AI ​​Clear Face feature that reduces distortion for up to 10 people, making group photos clearer.

In addition to multimedia editing tools, the smartphone offers text generation and summarization capabilities across various apps and services. For example, AI Recording Summary, which transcribes a voice recording, or AI Summarization to summarize articles and long texts from the web. The smartphone also has an AI Writer feature, which essentially acts as a writing assistant.
