India’s industrial production up 5.9% in May: Rediff Moneynews

India’s industrial production rose 5.9% in May, driven by strong performance in mining and energy sectors. Manufacturing sector growth slowed to 4.6%.

New Delhi, July 12 (PTI) India’s industrial production grew 5.9 per cent in May this year, led by a strong performance in the mining and power sectors, official data showed on Friday.

Industrial production, measured by the Industrial Production Index (IIP), increased by 5.7% in May 2023.

As reported in an official statement, India’s industrial production index increased by 5.9 percent in May 2024.

Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) showed that manufacturing sector output slowed to 4.6% in May 2024 compared with 6.3% in the same month a year earlier.

In May this year, mining production increased by 6.6 percent and electricity production increased by 13.7 percent.

In April and May of the current fiscal year, the IIP index increased by 5.4 per cent compared to 5.1 per cent in the same period of the previous year.
