The Sikkim government enforces strict rules regarding working hours and office attendance.

Gang4tok, July 12: The Sikkim government has issued a strict directive to ensure punctuality and regular attendance of employees. From now on, all government offices will be functional from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Moreover, 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month are officially declared as holidays.
The Directive is a response to growing concerns about employee lateness and leaving work early, which negatively impacts development-oriented policies and causes inconvenience to the public using government services.
To address these concerns, the government is mandating that all employees must be present in their offices from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Department heads are required to conduct surprise attendance checks and periodic inspections to enforce compliance. Employees arriving after 10:30 a.m. or leaving before 4:30 p.m. without a valid reason will be charged a half-day deduction for special leave. Additionally, employees absent during working hours without proper leave documentation will be charged a full day of special leave by their department heads.
The government is also discouraging the submission of special leave applications via SMS or WhatsApp, insisting that formal paper applications be submitted within a reasonable time.
These measures are aimed at increasing productivity and ensuring that citizens receive timely and efficient services from government agencies.
