Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integrated into various aspects of life. The need for a strong regulatory framework to manage its ethical and social implications is imperative. Recently, Colorado established itself as a leader in the transparency movement by introducing the first groundbreaking and comprehensive AI law in the country, set to go into effect on February 1, 2026. While there is currently no federal legislation in effect, Colorado’s AI Act has the potential to serve as a model for future federal regulation. This new law is designed to protect consumers from any potential bias and discrimination that may be embedded in AI systems by establishing clear guidelines that uphold the ethical use of technological tools.

Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act Review

The Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (“CAIA”) was signed into law by Colorado Governor Jared Polis on May 17 and is one of the first fully comprehensive AI laws in the U.S. The Act focuses on the development and deployment of “high-risk” AI systems by implementing strict requirements to prevent algorithmic discrimination and facilitate transparency.
