Galaxy S24, S23 FE and more devices get Samsung’s July update

With the Unpacked over, Samsung has seemingly shifted its focus to the July security update. The company has released a new security patch for a number of devices, including the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S23 FE and several A-series phones are also on the list.

Galaxy S24 series receives Samsung’s July update with GPS fixes

The July update is currently rolling out to Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra users in Samsung’s home country of South Korea. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is being rolled out with the firmware build number S92*NKSU3AXFG and OTA (over the air) file size of over 530 MB (varies by device model). The company should expand the rollout to other markets soon.

The official changelog provided by Samsung says that this update includes GPS-related stability improvements along with July’s security patches. The GPS fixes may or may not make it to other markets, but the security fixes will certainly come. This month’s SMR addresses over 60 security holes across the Galaxy family. These include four critical Android OS fixes from Google and two critical Galaxy fixes from Samsung.

These security patches are also rolling out to the Galaxy S23 FE. The Fan Edition phone is receiving the update in Europe with a build number S711BXXS4CXF9 and in India with S711BXXS4CXF8. Unlike the new flagships, it doesn’t get anything extra. Samsung shouldn’t have to wait long to bring the update to the US and other remaining markets. The phone could get a significant feature update in August.

The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A04e, the two A-series models after the Galaxy A55 to Samsung’s July security patch, are also receiving only security patches. The former is receiving the update in Europe with a build number A536BXXSBEXF3while the latter is available in India with the firmware version A042FXXS8EXF2We should soon see Samsung roll out the July SMR release to other eligible Galaxy devices, including tablets.

Samsung’s new flagships will get a major update next month

The July Galaxy S24 update may not be exciting, but the next update could be huge. Samsung is expected to bring new AI features and other improvements from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 to its latest flagships in August. The update should also bring major camera improvements, at least to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. We’ll let you know when it starts rolling out. You can also manually check for updates in Settings.
