An investigation was launched last year to examine the potential impact of the deal on the level of competition at petrol stations.

Maxol’s proposal to acquire Naas Fuels, operator of seven Circle K-branded petrol stations in the Leinster region, has been approved.

An investigation has been launched to examine the potential impact of the agreement on the level of competition between petrol stations and its effects on consumers.

However, the CCPC found that Maxol would continue to compete with other suppliers in the retail market for motor fuels and the operation of convenience stores at petrol stations.

Therefore, the CCPC concluded that the proposed acquisition would not significantly lessen competition and could be completed.

Maxol, a retailer of crude oil and petroleum products, owns a network of 243 Maxol-branded petrol stations across Ireland, while Naas Fuels operates seven Circle K-branded stations.
