AG Bailey files motion to intervene in antitrust lawsuit against Tyson Foods

DEXTER, Mo. (KFVS) – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announces he’s filed a motion to intervene in an antitrust lawsuit against Tyson Foods.

According to a post on X on Friday, July 12, Bailey said “The people deserve better than big corporations who engage in anticompetitive behavior at the expense of Missouri jobs and communities.”

Dexter attorney Russell Oliver sent us this statement on Friday regarding Bailey’s announcement and a class action lawsuit against Tyson Foods:

“From the language of the tweet it seems to me the AG will be trying to become a party in our case to protect the interest of the State of Missouri and local communities. This would allow them to participate in the litigation, obtain documents, and bring causes of action on behalf of the state and local governments.”

Hundreds of people were laid off when Tyson’s Dexter operation closed in October 2023.

In December, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. announced an agreement to acquire the shuttered broiler processing assets in Dexter from Tyson Foods, Inc.

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley recently sent a letter to Tyson CEO Donnie King, suggesting King was not honest with him when he said the company would entertain bids from competitors when selling its processing plant in Dexter.
