Food Security: Abubakar Kyari Positions Agriculture Sector – CSO

Since his appointment, Minister Abubakar has demonstrated unwavering commitment to promoting positive change, implementing bold initiatives and positioning the agricultural sector

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria, COCSON, on Friday commended the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, for policies aimed at improving food security and tackling high food prices.

The award was presented at a press conference in Abuja where COCSON Spokesperson, Adebayo Oluwaseun, on behalf of the Coalition, thanked and commended the Minister, noting that the leadership he has shown since his appointment has had a positive impact on the agriculture sector which is now revolutionizing as well as ensuring food security for Nigeria and Nigerians.

According to Oluwaseun, the Minister was committed to the implementation of the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Plan, NATIP, which has played a key role in the modernization of the agricultural sector, resulting in technological advancement and the empowerment of smallholder farmers across the country.

He said: “We, the members of COCSON, gather here today with great pride and deep optimism to commend the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Mahmood Abubakar, for his exceptional leadership and the transformational impact he has had on the agricultural landscape of our beloved country, Nigeria.

“Since his appointment, Minister Abubakar has demonstrated unwavering commitment to promoting positive change, implementing bold initiatives and positioning the agriculture sector as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development in Nigeria.”

According to COCSON, the Minister has empowered women and youth in the agricultural sector, including through initiatives that provide specialist capacity building and access to finance, as well as providing opportunities for underrepresented groups, enabling them to actively participate in the growth and development of the sector.

“The Minister’s unwavering support for women and youth in agriculture has been truly transformational. By investing in their skills, knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit, he has not only empowered these key demographic groups but also paved the way for a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural ecosystem in Nigeria.

“The coalition is confident that under your leadership, this sector will continue to thrive, contributing to the country’s food security, economic prosperity and sustainable development.

“Kyari’s dedication, innovation and tireless efforts have truly set a new standard for agricultural leadership in Nigeria. We, the members of COCSON, pledge our unwavering support and commitment to work with the Minister to further strengthen the agricultural sector and achieve our shared vision of a prosperous, food secure and environmentally sustainable Nigeria,” he added.

Meanwhile, COCSON Secretary Fatima Usman, “Under the leadership of Minister Abubakar, NATIP has been a game-changer, revolutionizing the way we approach agriculture in Nigeria.

“Thanks to this innovative plan, we have witnessed significant increases in crop yields, improved access to state-of-the-art farming techniques and the creation of numerous employment opportunities for our youth in the agricultural value chain.”
