The French retailer has tapped Matthieu Caloni, a former LVMH and Histoire d’Or employee, as director of strategy and transformation for its Galeries Lafayette and BHV Marais department stores.

Matthieu Caloni – Galeries Lafayette Group

Matthieu Caloni will join the executive committee, working alongside CEO Nicolas Houzé. His mission will be to “provide a solid foundation for the ongoing transformation of the company’s management approach,” the group said.

This desire for change was reflected in the choice of a new logo and slogan last September. The group also successfully launched its first outlet store and increased sales at BHV Marais after a major renovation. The assortment was not neglected either, with the appointment in January of Laetitia Ivanex, previously of Les Prairies de Paris, as creative director of women’s ready-to-wear.

Matthieu Caloni is a graduate of ESSEC business school and since 2014 has been Director of Strategy and Development at Thom Europe Group, owner of the long-standing Histoire d’Or and Marc Orian brands. He previously worked at Boston Consulting Group. He began his career in 1998 at LVMH, where he took over the Japanese market for the Dom Pérignon brand.

The Galeries Lafayette Group operates a network of 280 stores, with the retail brands Galeries Lafayette, BHV Marais, Louis Pion, Royal Quartz and Didier Guerin. The company employs 15,000 people and claims that its stores receive one million customers a day, generating sales of €3.8 billion.
