This Cybersecurity Startup Could Be Alphabet’s Biggest Acquisition Yet

Google-owned Alphabet is reportedly considering bolstering its cybersecurity capabilities and expanding its cloud security offerings as demand for robust security solutions grows as companies grapple with an increasing number of threats.

This found its perfect match in Wiz, a cloud-based cybersecurity platform specializing in real-time threat detection and response that is now valued at $12 billion and has quickly gained traction in the industry.

According to the company, it has revenue of $350 million in 2023 and its customer base includes 40% of the Fortune 100 companies, demonstrating its ability to address the critical security issues faced by organizations around the world.

For a staggering $23 billion, almost twice as much as its largest acquisition to date, Motorola Mobility in 2011, Alphabet is indeed taking a significant strategic step into the rapidly growing cybersecurity market.

Google’s parent company Alphabet revalued at $2 trillion

The company’s AI efforts will be key to its accelerated growth in 2024.

As with acquisitions of this type, there are concerns about antitrust violations due to Google’s dominant position in the technology industry. However, experts believe that given the deal’s focus on cybersecurity, a sector in which many players operate, this may not be a problem for the tech giant.

If the deal goes through, the acquisition would make Google a significant player in the cybersecurity market, competing with giants such as Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Above all, it could further strengthen Google’s position as a leading provider of cloud-based security solutions.
