Doug Wheeler to lead JMI’s Center for Economic Prosperity

This James Madison Institute brings Doug Wheeler as the new director George Gibbs Center for Economic Prosperity.

In his new position, Wheeler will work with business leaders, policymakers, researchers, free-market partners, and stakeholders to advance market-based policies consistent with the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty.

“As JMI continues to grow and expand its presence both in Florida and beyond, we are pleased to welcome Doug Wheeler as our new director of the George Gibbs Center for Economic Prosperity,” said JMI President and CEO Bob McClure.

“His experience and political knowledge, as well as his shared belief in the principles of liberty and freedom, make Doug the ideal candidate to help our state’s leaders navigate the challenges and opportunities in this critically important area.”

Wheeler joins JMI from D. Wheeler Strategies, a full-service public relations firm providing strategic consulting services in the areas of local, state and federal government affairs, brand and business development, communications and strategic planning.

Wheeler previously served as president and CEO of the Florida Ports Council, a nonprofit corporation that serves as the professional association for Florida’s 15 public deepwater seaports and their management. He is also a former vice president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

Wheeler currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Economic Club of Florida, a board member of the Network of Entrepreneurs & Business Advocates, a graduate of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship – Small Business Executive Program, and an Honorary Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Wheeler is a graduate of Florida State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in political communications.
