The Best Generative AI Tools to Boost Workplace Productivity

We’ve all probably seen AI generation tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, which can create text, drawings, and even computer code that looks like it was created by a human.

They are very impressive, but do you use them just for fun, or have you found a way to use them for something really useful?

Well, one of the areas where they have the greatest potential is in automating everyday tasks in the workplace. Over the past two years, a number of new apps, tools, and services have emerged that can help us become faster and more productive at work.

Here’s my roundup of what I consider to be some of the most impressive, useful, or innovative generative AI productivity tools available today. They can help anyone do their job faster or more efficiently, freeing up valuable time that can be spent on more fulfilling and creative tasks. These are in no particular order, but let’s start with five that I find particularly interesting or noteworthy:

Zapier

Zapier is an integration tool, meaning it helps other tools and apps communicate and collaborate with each other. For example, you can use it to automatically capture information from sources like call logs, emails, or chat transcripts, as well as create to-do cards in project management tools like Trello, calendar events, or update records in CRM software like SalesForce or Hubspot. This can save users a ton of time from copying and updating records across platforms. It also reduces the risk of human error.

Zapier has now integrated generative AI chatbots that make this process as simple as telling them what to do. They will automatically find the right connectors and triggers and pull insights from business data in real time, making it easy for anyone to build AI workflows that span multiple apps and data sources.

Wydra.ai

In recent years, Otter has become one of the leading AI-powered meeting assistants. It can automatically create organized and searchable transcripts of conversations, as well as extract insights and action items. It integrates with popular messaging and meeting apps like Zoom and Teams, and can generate email summaries and send them to the right people while tracking any necessary follow-ups. One thing that sets it apart is its high level of user-friendliness, meaning that even coworkers who are wary of trying new tools should be able to get up and running with its AI features very quickly.

Trello

Millions of people use project management tools to track ongoing work or measure progress toward goals, and Trello is one of the most popular. Like many industry-standard tools, it has recently been enhanced with generative AI capabilities, in this case powered by the Atlassian Intelligence engine. This streamlines the process of creating new cards by generating content and automatic summaries, as well as suggesting improvements to grammar or clarity when communicating ideas. Atlassian Intelligence is currently only available to Trello premium and enterprise users, but may be integrated into the free version in the future.

Zoom with AI companion

Zoom has become an everyday tool during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping many businesses conduct business (almost) as usual. Many of us have discovered that it’s also a great way to stay connected with family and friend groups. It, too, recently got a generative AI makeover with the addition of Workplace Companion.

This allows paid subscribers to create automated summaries of calls and virtual meetings, complete with follow-ups, tasks, and action items. This eliminates the need for note-taking and other manual administrative tasks during meetings and allows participants to focus on the discussion at hand.

Done

BeeDone takes a different approach to many productivity apps by gamifying the task management process. It does this by breaking down complex tasks into simple steps and then awarding points for completing them. It’s a fun idea that adds a new spin to the many “smart” to-do lists, task managers, and time trackers out there. BeeDone learns user habits and fine-tunes its process optimization capabilities, and even includes “productivity tournaments” where users can compete against each other to see who can become the most efficient!
