Non-executive board members – Ark

Non-executive board members

Ark Housing Association (Arka)

Non-executive board member

Are you looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to shape the next phase of Ark’s ambitious strategy?

Ark’s mission is to provide the best possible outcomes for its clients through highly skilled staff, high-quality, affordable homes, and excellent care. This goal will be achieved by creating inclusive communities where high-quality housing and care enable people to thrive and live well.

Founded in 1977, Ark has 450 tenants and supports over 400 people through a dedicated and highly skilled workforce of over 700. We operate across 12 local authority areas in the North and East of Scotland, as well as providing services to the Western Isles.

The Ark Group consists of three companies:

  • Ark is a registered charity and registered social landlord (RSL) that provides housing and care and is the parent company of the group.
  • Ark Services Limited is a private limited company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Ark.
  • Ark Commercial Investment Limited (ACIL) is a limited liability company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Ark.

Although Ark is a housing association, the majority of Ark’s work is around providing care and support to people with long-term and chronic conditions such as learning disabilities, mental health problems, dementia and autism. Our aim is to ensure that people using our services receive the best support from Ark to enable them to lead a good life. Further information can be found on the Ark website: https://www.arkha.org.uk/.

We currently have vacancies for non-executive board positions on both the main and subsidiary boards, at a very exciting time for Ark. We are entering the second year of our corporate strategy and have set an ambitious set of goals to grow and develop the business with a strong set of performance targets. As a new board member you will play a key role in developing and enabling the business plan for the next 5-10 years and improving the governance framework to effectively monitor performance. This will be with a clear focus on delivering high quality housing and care services and support.

Ark Group Management Board

We are looking for 2-3 people to fill non-executive positions on the board of Ark’s parent company: Ark Housing Association.

This Council meets 6-7 times a year in a hybrid approach and will require some face to face attendance. We welcome applications from people with experience in care and support or housing/assets and an understanding of RSL governance would be an advantage but is not essential.

The Management Board of the Ark subsidiary

We are looking to strengthen our governance by appointing non-executive directors to our Supervisory Board and separating it from the Ark Group Supervisory Board to ensure independence. This Board will consist of 5 or 6 people and will be chaired by a current Ark Group board member. Your role will involve serving both subsidiaries and will meet 4 times a year in turn. The Board meets remotely and will be an excellent opportunity for those seeking their first Board role, with the opportunity to learn about two very different companies; one commercial/private company and one registered charity. You will be provided with a full induction and mentoring opportunity by an experienced Board member and we do not expect you to have any previous Board experience. Overall, we are looking for dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic individuals from a variety of backgrounds who will help shape the future of Ark.

If you would like to make a positive contribution to the voluntary sector and make a difference to people’s lives, please send your CV and covering letter to David Bond at McGregor Bond at [email protected] or call for a confidential interview on 07801 490678.
