Key findings from ZDNET

  • This Auskang Powerbank 5000mAh is available on Amazon for $21.
  • It is small and thin, yet durable and delivers on all its promises.
  • I wish it could be charged via the built-in USB-C port.

I have a soft spot for big power banks: there’s something about bigger devices that feels safe because of all the power they can hold. That said, I’m very aware that the bigger the power bank, the more likely it is to get left behind, leaving my devices without those sweet electrons.

The first thing that is absolutely striking about this power bank is how thin it is. It is really thin, much thinner than my iPhone and about the thickness of a few credit cards or a few coins.

When I first saw it, I thought it might be plastic and worried the battery might bend and catch fire in my pocket. Fortunately, it’s all encased in a stainless steel casing that has so far held up to everything I’ve thrown at it.

It's thin!

Sure, I’m sure I could bend it in half if I tried, but the same goes for my phone or tablet. The important thing is that it’s strong enough to handle everyday life.

The power bank has all the basic features you would expect: a power button, four LEDs showing the current charge level, and a USB-C port that can be used to charge devices and the power bank itself.

Charging lights.

It also has a built-in USB-C connector on a short pigtail cable for charging any device with a USB-C port. This ingenious twist adds versatility, meaning you don’t have to carry an extra cable or rely on wireless charging. Prefer a Lightning connector over USB-C? No problem! It’s version available with the same.

Dual outputs allow the power bank to charge two devices simultaneously or charge while charging another device. This makes it incredibly handy for times when you need reliable power without the bulk.

Perhaps most importantly, the success of this power bank has freed me from having to carry around the biggest one I can find. It offers a capacity of 5000 mAh, which is not huge quantity, but it’s enough to charge a modern smartphone about once. If you need more, you’ll need bigger pockets for a larger power bank or access to AC power.

ZDNET Shopping Tips

This Auskang Powerbank 5000mAh is perfect for use on the go with your smartphone. It’s small, lightweight, and powerful. The only gripe I have is that you can’t charge it with the built-in USB-C cable; you need a separate cable for that. Another thing to carry around makes it harder to travel light. Think of this power bank more as a one-time use case.

Overall, at around $20, the Auskang offers a lot for its money. If you’re looking for something small, thin, and durable enough to last in a pocket or bag, this is a great buy.
