Community Engagement Sessions Launch for Richmond’s First Solar Farm and Meadow

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Richmond has announced registration is now open for two community engagement sessions regarding the potential development of the city’s first solar farm and meadow.

If the project is approved, about 30 acres of land that was once used as a landfill could be transformed into a sustainable energy center and pollinator garden.

Solar panels will be installed on the ground to generate clean and renewable energy, and a pollinator garden will be created beneath the panels.

The garden would support local biodiversity by providing a habitat for important pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

The schedule for the community engagement sessions is as follows:

  • Session 1
    • Date: Thursday, July 18
    • Time: 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM
    • Location: EDI Pop-Center 701 North 25th Street
  • Session 2
    • Date: Wednesday, July 24
    • Time: from 19:00 to 20:00
    • Location: Powhatan Community Center – 5051 Northampton Street

To register for both meetings, click Here.

Residents are invited to these sessions to share thoughts, ask questions and learn more about the potential project. These sessions will help provide opportunities for the community to provide input into the planning and development of the project.
