Taraba Governor Appoints 1,270 Assistants, Gives Reason

A total of 1,075 people were appointed in the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday, 15 and 16 July 2024.

State Government Secretary Gebon Kataps confirmed and announced the appointments in a press release on Wednesday, July 17.

According to the statement, the appointees are to serve as Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, District Special Assistants or members of boards, commissions and agencies of the Taraba State Government.

The state government had released a total of 573 names by Monday, while the number had dropped to 502 by Tuesday evening, Channels TV reported.

Meanwhile, Vanguard reports that the latest appointments are in addition to 195 previous appointments approved by the governor who have not yet been given any portfolios.

The total number of advisors to the governor now stands at 1,270.

This appointment, however, comes in addition to five other appointments that were given portfolios in his Cabinet since taking office.

This is happening at a time when voices are emerging from various sides demanding a reduction in management costs.

The former council chairman was said to be in hiding after being accused of being involved in the death of a former state House of Assembly legislator

In April 2024, state police commissioner David Iloyanmon told reporters that police had been searching for the former council chairman since the chief judge ordered his arrest.
